I am, by day, a Science educator, but when I get the chance, I love to “draint” – that is to draw with paint. I have little formal art training, having run out of GCSE options at 13, I did not study art again until university. I was fortunate enough, during my Science degree, to have the opportunity to study drawing at The Slade, London.
After this brief spate of creativity, I invested the next 14 years of my life into establishing a successful Science teaching career, specialising in Physics. I moved to West Yorkshire and found fulfillment in inspiring young people.
My artistic journey resumed after becoming involved in a local art networking event, the Wakefield Artwalk; I started doing life drawing again. Taking courage in positive feedback from established artists, I set about preparing for my first exhibition.
That was over 2 years ago. I am now taking a further leap of faith: going part time in teaching to pursue a dream.
